Keep the Faith in Jake

        It wasn't what we hoped for, but realistically, it's probably how it should have played out.  All summer we read about the Husky offense having more potency than a bottle of Viagra.  All summer Dawg fans salivated for the season to begin.  With Jake returning, nothing could stand in our way.  Yet, as the season unfolded the hard truths were revealed and the Huskies were still a work in progress.  Behind an inconsistent line and fractured ribs, Jake struggled, and the teams' fortunes followed suit.  Prior to the season, he was anointed the consensus overall no.1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, yet now due to the inconsistencies, some say he's no longer even a first rounder!  Bashing Jake became the trendy thing to do, I even did it.  But through it all, the kid's heart, leadership, and drive has held constant and never wavered.  He lives and breathes Husky football.  And that's been true from day one when Jake stepped onto campus heaped with more pressure than Jesus Christ.  He's no longer the best player on the team, but he is the unquestioned leader of the pack.  And so now, when UW faces off against Nebraska in two days at the Holiday Bowl look to Jake to lead them through it.  It's exactly what he came back for.
       And one other thing, if the Seahawks can, I fully support drafting Jake Locker to be Seattle's QB for the future.  He's got the arm, athletic ability, and work ethic to be successful.  I believe his accuracy will soon follow.  And best of all, he brings no excess baggage.  We can't overlook this guy like Tim Lincecum.  He's a home-grown star, let's keep him home.

NFC West Championship Game

        16 weeks in the bag, and it all comes down to this Sunday in prime-time.  The Seahawks host the Rams in a winner take all in the NFC's Mild, Mild West.  It's the only game left where playoff implications are decided for both teams with victory.  With victory Seattle would host home playoff game in the Wild Card Round.  A game Seattle hasn't seen since 2007.  And don't listen to the national media whining about neither team deserving the slot, just two years ago San Diego won their division and hosted the same game with an 8-8 record.  That's just one game better than Seattle, if they are to win.  The playoffs are a big deal, and making them is a very good thing, you can't convince me otherwise.  In the playoffs, it's a whole new season, anything can happen.  And for Seattle, it rights the ship that's been going astray for two years.  The journey won't be complete, but at least it's started.  So Hawks' fans get pumped, they're are going to need the 12th man more than ever.  Oh and let's all hope for a speedy recovery for QB Matt Hasselback, I don't think anyone wants to set our salvation on the back of "Clipboard Jesus."

Always Sunny in Philadelphia

        At least now it is, how so.  The Phillies somehow snatched Cliff Lee out of the grasp of New York and Texas.  And did so with a smaller contract!  Lee joins an already formidable rotation with reigning NL Cy Young winner Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels.  And if that isn't enough, the Eagles have a shot at securing the NFC's no. 2 seed and a first round bye.  How did they get there?  They're led by a resurgent Michael Vick, who seems to have matured into a real leader since his dog fighting years, and the NFL's most electric player, DeSean Jackson.  This past weekend they rallied from 21 down in the 4th quarter against the Giants, winning on Jackson's TD punt return as time expired, in what was the game of the year.  Only two questions remain: "Will Michael Vick overthrow Tom Brady as league MVP?" and "Why the hell would NYG punter Matt Dodge even think about punting to Jackson with the game on the line?"  Doesn't look like the sun will be setting anytime soon.

Momentum Building

        Upon the announcement of UW's match-up with Nebraska, Husky Nation let out a collective groan.  But, that groan has since subsided, and slowly but surely momentum is beginning to build, and coincidentally regress for Nebraska.  Let's take a look.  First, off Nebraska has reported doubts of selling out their 11,000 ticket allotment, UW on the other hand has reported confidence in selling out its allotment.  The Nebraska defense which had a knack for knocking Jake Locker on his butt, is now more interested in knocking back a few cold ones and settling in behind the wheel as both DT Baker Steinkuhler and S Rickey Thenarse have been suspended for DUI's.  The UW on the other hand, finally has James Johnson (WR whom after a stellar freshman year in 2009, struggled through a subsequent injury plagued 2010 season) back in good form.  Even Jake Locker, after playing several weeks with broken ribs, is reported to be healthier than ever.  In fact, he's feeling so good he proposed & is now engaged to his longtime girlfriend.  Congrats Jake.
        Though, due to the immense talent disparity between the two, this alone, isn't enough to win the game.  But, with an uninspired Nebraska team, the UW needs to capitalize, and resurrect a program's pride.  What a perfect engagement gift that would make.

The Streak is Over

        After the Metrodome collapse this past weekend's game between the Giants and the Vikings was pushed a day and hosted in Detroit.  That gave Brett Favre one extra day to mend and keep his consecutive games started streak alive.  Unfortunately, Brett wasn't even able to suit up and so the streak ends at 297 games.  Impressive.  Many are calling this the end to his career.  Rumor has it, he's asking to be placed on the IR, ending his season.  But, what about the fallout from "Penis Gate."  If Brett is done with the NFL, how can the NFL levy punishment?  Does this mean Jenn Sterger strategically waiting 2 years to play her "Brett Favre Penis Parade" pawn to revive her career was fruitless.  Say it ain't so.  Looks like she'll have to resort to the previously proven methods: posing for playboy, shaving your head, performing on "Dancing with the Stars", and/or an ex dropping a sex tape with hopes of it going viral.  Good luck.

Big Ten's Quest for Boredom

        As if the Big 10 didn't bore you enough with their style of football, with the recent expansion, the Big 10 decided it was in need of a new logo.  And after scouring through many options (I'm assuming) they've decided on this:

This apparently is the height of creativity in the Big 10.  And the 10 embedded in the word "Big" is in homage to the original 10 conference members.  Apparently, the word "Ten" in the logo wasn't enough homage paid forth.  And it doesn't stop there, instead of naming its separate divisions using geographical nomenclature, like every other conference, they've opted for the Leaders and Legends divisions.  My slow clap is gaining intensity.

The Real 12th Man

        Here in Seattle, the Seahawks rely on the crowd to be loud enough to energize their defense and confuse opposing offenses.  The impact is so significant, Seattle nicknamed its crowd "The 12th Man."  They've even gone so far as retiring the number 12.  But, in New York, they've got a whole different definition of the 12th man.  See here:

Seahawks Blow Opportunity

        As this weekend proved in the NFC West, the only thing that can take you out of the race for the division crown is the mathematics behind it.  In lieu of this, Seattle, today had a golden opportunity to establish themselves in sole possession of first place and knocking the Niners from playoff contention with a victory.  Instead, they surrendered 5 turnovers and disgraced the art of tackling in a 40-21 butt whooping.  I'm not sure who was more deflated the Seahawks and their fans or the Metrodome roof.

Thank God, that didn't occur during the game.  That game is now moved to Detroit tomorrow night with free game tickets.

 

CFB Update

        A couple major events occurring this weekend on the college football landscape this past weekend. 
        First, the Florida Gators take one day and need only one interview to find Urban Meyer's replacement, hiring "Texas-coach-in-waiting" Will Muschamp.  Muschamp, who previously expressed his content and patience for the top position at Texas, by turning away prior suitors, couldn't turn down the chance to return to the SEC.  Muschamp, prior to his stint with the Longhorns, made his bones at Auburn.  This is just more bad news for Mac Brown, who after experiencing his first losing season at Texas, was already looking at replacing 3 other assistants prior to this breaking.
        And speaking of Auburn, their star QB, Cam Newton, as expected won the 2010 Heisman in a landslide.  The only questions now that remain, is whether Newton will actually keep the award and if he chooses to leave for the NFL, will his fate run parallel with all the other past Heisman QB winners in NFL failure.

Urban Meyer Resigns Again

       For the second season in a row, University of Florida head coach Urban Meyer, is stepping down.  This time though, it seems for good.  He wants to focus on his family.  Can't hate a man for that.  That obviously leaves a huge gaping hole at one of the nation's premier programs.  Who fills the hole?  My guess, Charlie Strong, head coach at Louisville, former defensive coordinator under Meyer during the two title years.  Anyone else care to venture a guess?

NBA to Buy NO Hornets

        The NO Hornets, a perennial top 5 NBA team, with the game's best and most exciting point guard in Chris Paul.  Yet, the bayou doesn't seem to care.  So much so, they've failed to meet the minimum attendance requirements per their lease.  And so the owner, George Shinn, has been looking to bail.  But, what's this, David Stern and the NBA are stepping in to take the Hornets off Shinn's hands.  With the intentions of finding the resources to keep the team in New Orleans.  Where was this compassion when the Sonics were looking for new ownership?  Let's compare, Seattle, had a dedicated fan base and a 40+ year history, NO was founded in 1988 in Charlotte, (NO being one of 3 cities its played in) and a irrelevant fan base.  Yet douche-bag Stern chose to bail them out.  Why, most likely because he doesn't have his favorite henchmen, Clay Bennett, hanging around pulling on his coat tails, asking for a team.  Do the right thing, put the team up for public sale and sell to a real owner (Steve Ballmer) and a real basketball city, like Seattle. 

UW Invited to the Holiday Bowl

UW looks to avenge a home whooping with a date against Nebraska.  I'm equal parts excited for the bowl and scared for the match-up.  Thank God we have 3+ weeks to prepare.

And as a side note, aside from the Title Game (which could be a game for the ages), aren't the bowl match-ups rather dull?

OH SO SWEET!!!!

       After 284 yards of rushing from Chris Polk and 8 years of frustration, the Huskies are going bowling!  Finishing 6-6, the Dawgs sit patiently for their invite to either the Alamo or Holiday Bowl.  Don't disregard that record, for a team winless & lifeless 2 years ago, playing in the only conference that cannibalizes itself with 9 conference games, and #1 ranked toughest schedule, the Dawgs made it through.  And with 3 last minute wins on the road, it was possibly the most invigorating .500 season ever.  They're BACK!!!!!!! 

Respect has Returned to Washington

         The Apple Cup, a great matchup across most of its 103 year history.  Yet over these past 8 seasons, with both teams' fates sinking like Wamu, this game has become a laughingstock across the nation.  At its low point, folks referred to it as "Two Girls, One Apple Cup." 
        Yet finally, the game has meaning, beyond the pride factor we convinced ourselves of recently.  With a UW victory comes a berth in the Holiday Bowl.  And so two years after a winless season, Dawg fans can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.  Step on the gas, we've been patient enough.

On the Topic of Ohians Embarrassing Themselves

        About a week ago, E. Gordon Gee, president of Ohio State University was found talking football.  He was discussing why schools in major conferences, like his school in the Big 10, are more deserving of a shot at the National Title because they play tougher competition every week.  He's quoted as stating, "We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor."  Something many would agree with.  Funny thing is, is that he was unaware that OSU's strength of schedule was rated #64 and Boise State was rated #62.  Oops.  Yet, at least he's now admitted his faults.  He's now responded to his statements with:
"What do I know about college football? I look like Orville Redenbacher. I have no business talking about college football.....What I should do is go over to the surgical suites and get my foot extricated from my mouth."  That's pretty good.
        Oh, and as for the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Roman Catholic's woman's order serving the elderly, Gee has already reached out to one of the homes local to Ohio. 

Let's Move On

        Real quick, it's reported Dan Gilbert, the Cleveland Cavs owner, has hired a law firm to create a case claiming illegal tampering by Miami in the Lebron signing.  Have we all not had enough of this?  Can't we just move on?  What's next?  Gilbert claiming Lebron impregnated his daughter?

Ignorance is Bliss

        Over the past few weeks, it seemed everyday more & more information was coming out in regards to the Cam Newton controversy.  The info was snowballing out of control, so much so, I convinced myself it would culminate in a YouTube video of Newton accepting the cash, heading to the nearest strip club, and making it rain.  To end the madness Auburn revoked his eligibility and asked the NCAA for reinstatement.  And in one day the NCAA concluded Cam's father illegally shopped his son's services, yet found no evidence that the player, nor school, were aware of these transgressions.  And therefore granted his immediate reinstatement without condition.  To this I have two thoughts.
        First, over this past year, the NCAA was riddled with problems involving illegal agent contact with amateur players.  The NCAA was lost for solutions.  Yet, now haven't they set a precedent.  When in trouble, blame daddy.  Have the flood gates not just been opened?  For agents and prospective players, Christmas came early.  Money will spread like syphilis in the New World.  This should be interesting.
       Secondly, isn't anyone a little curious with how rapidly the NCAA concluded their findings.  I mean it took 4 years to levy judgment in the Reggie Bush case.  Yet, now an Auburn team on the verge of the BCS title game, pending a victory this Saturday, suddenly lose its star player, and the thought of TCU, a non-BCS qualifying school, crashing the party, gets the NCAA to move like the airborne on D-Day. 
        As a fan of chaos in sports, let's go Gamecocks.
       

Who Are the Top 5?

        After Dave's passing yesterday, I've been thinking Dave Niehaus is undoubtedly in the Top 5of Seattle's most prominent sports figures.  But, who else is?  Unquestionably, I put Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Gary Payton in there.  But, who's the fifth.  Is it a Seahawk?  Steve Largent, Cortez Kennedy, Walter Jones, Matt Hasselbeck?  Another Mariner?  Jay Buhner, Ichiro, Randy Johnson, Alex Rodriguez (we hate him, but prominent he was)?  Maybe another Sonic?  Shawn Kemp, Kevin Calabro (yes, Seattle we've had the privelge of 2 of the greatest in the broadcast business), Nate McMillan, Jack Sikma, Slick Watts?  What about Husky legends?  Don James, Steve Etman, Lincoln Kennedy, Marques Tuiasosopo, Brandon Roy, Lorenzo Romar?  I could go on.  How about a little feedback?  I want to know what your personal Top 5 list is.

A Legend Falls

        It's a sad day in Seattle.  Dave Niehaus has died.  He was an icon in the Northwest and simply put, THE BEST.  Voicing the Mariners since their 1977 inception, his voice was as synonymous with baseball in Seattle as Junior's swing.  His calls of Edgar's "grand salami" in Game 4 or game winning hit in Game 5 of the '95 division series still give me chills and will be seared into my brain for all time.  The Mariners will never be the same. FLY, FLY AWAY Dave.

Meet the Yao Ming of India

        The NBA currently has 84 international players from 38 different countries.  Yet, not one from India, a country of 1.3 billion.  But, the motherland need not worry, meet Satnam Singh Bhamar.  He's 7'-0" tall, 250 pounds, rocks a size 22 shoe, and he's ONLY 14 years old.  This kid's still growing, his father is 7'-2" and his grandma is 6'-9".  This family of ents farm near the Pakistani border in the state of Punjab.  Without a court in the village to hone his skills, he's been provided the means to travel to Florida and train at the IMG Basketball Academy.  And you better believe the NBA's got eyes on him.  It'll be a few years, but if his untapped potential is reached, like Yao Ming in China, will he be the pioneer that opens the silk & spice route up to basketball talent.

BCS - Best Case Scenario

        If the season were to end today the National Title game would feature Oregon vs. Auburn.  A juicy match-up no one could have beef with.  Now, as a die-hard Husky, it kills mean to see Oregon with just a shot at the title, let alone win it.  But, after an extensive inner debate, I've decided that my hatred of Oregon, is far out-weighed by my love for the Left Coast and my ultimate goal of bringing down the East Coast Bias.  And so I present my BCS best case scenario.
        Now, before I begin, let me point out if a non-AQ school (TCU & Boise State) is not selected to play in the title game, the Rose Bowl is up in the rotation to take the first non-AQ school to be BCS eligible.  With that if the season were to end today, aside from Oregon & Auburn, automatic bids would go to Wisconsin, Pitt, Nebraska, & Va Tech.  The remaining invites would go to TCU (for the Rose Bowl), BSU, LSU, & most likely Ohio State.  Now TCU & BSU certainly deserve them.  LSU is #5 in the BCS, so that makes sense (aside from my qualms with them having only 4 road games).  But, #9 OSU over a #6 Stanford, that is b*llsh*t.  Yet, you know it would happen, due to their strong following compared to Stanford.  So here's what needs to happen to fix that.  Oregon wins out and goes to the title game.  Auburn would then lose one allowing TCU to jump ahead, shutting out the SEC of the title game (which I love).  Now, as stated before, as much as I'd hate to see Oregon as the champs, I'd hate it more if the Pac-10 were to be the one to lose the title game to a non-AQ.  Anyways, automatic bids would then go the champs of the BCS conferences, BSU, and the #2 SEC team.  Now, with TCU in the title game, the Rose Bowl is no longer obligated to take the non-AQ.  As it stands Wisconsin would get a Rose Bowl slot (as Big-10 champs) and the second spot would go to Stanford.  Shutting out an overrated Ohio State,allowing a well-deserved Stanford into the BCS, and for the first time ever the Pac-10 would get 2 BCS spots, something I feel is long overdue. 

Clipboard Jesus?

        Matt Hasselbeck is out this week against the Giants with a concussion.  Which means Charlie Whitehurst will shed the "Clipboard Jesus" moniker and make his first career start.  How will he play?  We don't know.  What do we know.  We know, in his four years of back-up duty, Whitehurst has never thrown a pass in a real game.  And we know WR's Mike Williams and Golden Tate are out.  We know, the current state of the O-line is abysmal, with starting LT Russell Okung out, starting guards Ben Hamilton and Max Unger gone for the year, backup LT Tyler Polumbus out, and Chris Spencer playing with a sore neck.  And we know the Giants are third in the league with 24 sacks and have injured 5 of the 7 QB's they've faced.
        One thing is for certain, if Whitehurst succeeds, you can be sure there's going to be QB controversy on our hands.  But, in this situation, that's the best circumstance we can hope for.  Oh and we also know Charlie Whitehurst looks like Christ, but will he be our Savior?

Husky Blackout

        Thursday night, Nov. 18th, the final home game for the Huskies, will be nationally televised on ESPN.  At this game UW plans to debut their new black uniforms.  In anticipation, Husky Nation is calling all fans to join the team, sporting black, creating a stadium wide blackout.  Unfortunately for Dawg fans, after witnessing the level of play these last few weeks, the only way to enjoy this game may actually be to black out.

Seahawks Decimated by Injuries AGAIN!

Let's take a look at the Hawks' current state:

Offense

QB - Starter Matt Hasselbeck - Out this Sunday with a concussion.

C - Starter Chris Spencer - Missed some practice this week with an injured neck.
OG - Starter Ben Hamilton joins starter Max Unger on the IR out for the year.
OT - Starting LT Russell Okung missed last week, did not practice this week, status unknown for this weekend.  Backup LT Tyler Polumbus out with an injured knee.
        
WR - Both starter Mike Williams and Golden Tate have not practiced this week, most likely out for Sunday.

FB - Starter Michael Robinson also has not practiced with an injured hamstring and may not play Sunday.

Defense

DE - Starter DE Red Byrant placed on the IR, out for the year.  Starter DE Chris Clemmons missed or limited in practices this week.

DL - Starter Colin Cole out several weeks with severe ankle sprain.  Starter Brandon Mebane, after missing 3 games, practiced for the first time today.

S - Jordan Babineaux has been limited in practice all week with illness.

And let's not forget our corners, starter Marcus Trufant missed a few games earlier this year, and both corners Kelly Jennings and Walter Thurmond missed last week's game.

Can someone please explain how this has happened three consecutive years.  One thought I've had is the VMAC, the state-of-art facility they built and opened three years ago.  Is it making our players soft?

Our best player this week is the 12th man, which actually has been its most successful against the NY Giants, the Hawks' opponent this Sunday.  So if you're joining me at the game, be ready.

Washington @ #1 Oregon - Saturday 12:30 PM - With a healthy Locker, I was hoping for a lighting storm to cancel the game.  With him out, could it be worse, or will the team take the opportunity to rise up and rally around Keith Price and at least make this respectable. 

#6 Alabama @ #10 LSU - Saturday 12:30 PM - If Alabama intends to defend their title, it starts with a win here.  Or will Les Miles finally step up and over Nick Saban.

Tampa Bay @ Atlanta - Sunday 10:00 AM - Is TB for real?  They can certainly prove so with a win here.

NY Giants @ Seattle - Sunday  1:00 PM - With 9 of 22 starters hurt, including QB Matt Hasselback, which enables Charlie Whitehurst to make his first career start.  Will crowd noise, special team, and Pete Carroll's mojo be enough to win against a tenacious Giants team who's knocked out 5 of the 7 QB's it's faced?  

SONICSGATE

        So I just got done watching the documentary "Sonicsgate."  It's something my brother had insisted I do for some time.  After being annoyed for so long I ignored these pleas.  That is until now.  After watching, my eyes have been opened to what all went down.  And words can not describe the amount of RAGE I'M FILLED WITH!  I now similarly plea to all Seattlites to watch:

        Simply put, Seattle was sold down the river on the only major sports team in our town to win a championship.  41 years of history was pissed on.  And there were four individuals I hold directly responsible.  First, Clay Bennett, you stole not only our team, but mine and many others' childhoods, memories, and much more.  And did so all while blatantly lying to the faces of Seattle.  Unforgivable, these sins will always stand in my eyes.  Howard Schultz, you had a responsibility to this city, and you crapped all over that.  I will join my fellow Sonics' fans and encourage others to never even step foot in a Starbucks.  Former Mayor Greg Nickels, you too shared that responsibility to this city, and like a coward, you tucked tail and ran after orchestrating the departure to Oklahoma City.  And finally the puppet master, NBA commissioner David Stern, you essentially held Bennett's hand en route to Oklahoma City.  With the league now riddled with debts in excess of $350 million, I can only hope it sees you for the fraud you are and eliminates your significance.
        For now, what's done is done.  My ignorance kept me from the rallies.  Now I plan to join Sonics' fans on the front lines.  This is not over.  BRING BACK OUR SONICS!  BRING BACK OUR SONICS!

Giants Win! World Series for the Left Coast

        Just moments ago the San Francisco Giants finished off the Texas Rangers for their first World Series since 1954 and first for the city of San Francisco.  Through 6 innings Husky Alum Tim Lincecum dueled Cliff Lee in a pitching classic.  The Giants broke through in the 7th on a 3-run homer from Edgar Renteria, his second career World Series winning hit (remember '97 against the Yanks).  Congrats to the Giants.

Locker Out Vs. Oregon

        After spending more time on his back than Paris Hilton in the effortless loss to Stanford, Jake Locker has finally succumbed to injury.  He will miss this Saturday's game against Oregon with a fractured rib.  However, this may the best of circumstances.  With or without Locker, the Huskies have no shot of a victory in Eugene.  Hopefully, with Keith Price at the helm, making his first start ever, the remainder of the team will take this opportunity, step up, and rally around the kid.  And who knows that may be just enough to make this a respectable game.  And with a bye the following week, we can hope for a fully recovered Locker for the final three games.  The three games in which UW will have to win to finish .500 and qualify for a bowl for the first time since the 2002 season.  Let's pray the Dawgs can show the resiliency they've preached all season.

        Let's take a look at a couple scenarios with how the BCS can play out.  First off, if #1 Oregon and #2 Auburn win out, there's no question they'll play for the national title.  No argument there.  But, say Oregon wins out, which is still no simple task with upcoming games against Arizona and the Civil War in Corvalis, and Auburn loses the Iron Bowl to Alabama.  If so, Alabama could win out, all the way to through the SEC title game.  Now, there's no way Alabama would jump an undefeated squad from another BCS conference, but with both Missouri and Michigan State losing this past weekend that's not an issue.  However, you can bet they'd jump TCU and BSU.  Alabama has upcoming games against 3 top 20 teams, victories in all would have the BCS drooling.
         Now, as it stands, there are 3 non-BCS conference teams undefeated and in the top 8: Boise State, TCU, & Utah.  TCU travels to Utah this Saturday, therefore that 3 will whittle to 2.  The winner there and BSU (who I'm betting will win out) will deserve BCS spots and most likely will get them.  Good news is, the Rose Bowl is slated to receive one non-AQ team this year if the top Pac-10 or Big-10 team make the title game (which Oregon may).  And there's no way the Rose Bowl will take 2 non-AQ teams.  Meaning the travesty of matching 2 non-AQ teams against each other won't happen again like last year.  Yet, the BCS can ill afford a drubbing similar to the 35-0 Utah victory over Alabama two years ago.  This could get interesting.

Randy Moss Homeless

Randy Moss waived by the Vikings today.  Minnesota drafted the conflicted WR years ago.  They knew what he was then and they knew what he is now, the same.  Yet they still traded a 3rd round pick to get him back.  And after this weekend's loss, the cut him.  Why?  For Randy being Randy?  I don't get it, it's like paying for hooker and then booting her after taking offense to her disrobing.

#2 Oregon 53 #24 USC 32 - As expected USC fought early, but in the end couldn't keep up with Oregon's offense.  And finally for Oregon, this victory earned them the respect of the BCS computers and top spot.

#1 Auburn 51 Ole Miss 31 - Apparently, this victory wasn't enough to keep the top spot in the BCS.

#4 TCU 48 UNLV 6 - And apparently this victory catapulted TCU ahead of Boise State in the BCS.  Again, I just don't understand the BCS formula.

 #18 Iowa 37 #5 Michigan State 6 - I've said it once and I'll keep saying it, the Big 10 isn't that good.  And this proves they don't have a legitimate National Title Contender.

#14 Nebraska 31 #6 Missouri - A little dose of Roy Helu Jr (307 yards rushing) ended Missouri's big dreams.  I believe Nebraska is a top 5 team and will win the Big 12.

#25 Baylor 30 Texas 22 - Not even a padded schedule (only 3 road games) can help Texas.

NFL

Jaguars 35 Cowboys 17 - FIRE WADE PHILLIPS. 

Lions 37 Redskins 25 - McNabb benched in the last 2 minute drive to comeback.  He must be the most respected, yet most dissed QB ever.

Raiders 33 Seahawks 3 - This was tough to watch and while most believe Seattle is no good, one thing is certain, Oakland is good. 

Saints 20 Steelers 10 - A possible Super Bowl preview.  This was NO's best game and had them looking like the real defending champs.

World Series

The Rangers split their first two games giving San Fran the 3-1 edge, but send their ace, Cliff Lee to the mound tonight to preserve its life.  The question is, can Lee return to form after being shellacked in Game 1.

Lights Out in Seattle

        Thank god it's the end of the weekend.  A weekend reminiscent of 2008.  The Huskies were simply anemic on Saturday in a 41-0 drubbing from Stanford.  I was so disgusted/embarrassed I had to leave at half time.  The Seahawks offered no solace either as they were man-handled in Oakland.  Oakland was aided by some of the most unbelievable bounces I've ever seen it still shouldn't have amounted to a 33-3 crushing.  I then looked to stop the bleeding and headed to Qwest field for the Sounders vs. Galaxy playoff match.  The result, a 1-0 loss.  I feel like we're in Cleveland.  I'm going to bed.

Saturday @ 11:30 AM - Tulsa @ Notre Dame - For the first time ever I'm rooting for a ND win.  Why?  Because this sets the stage for next week against an awesome Utah team on Senior Night.  ND's senior class is predicting a loss there, and if that holds true they will be the losingest class in school history.  And they intend to celebrate that accomplishment by storming the field.  I find that hilarious.

Saturday @ 12:30 PM - #5 Michigan State @ #18 Iowa - Is Michigan State the real deal?  We'll find out here.

Sunday @ 10:00 AM - Green Bay @ NY Jets - Prior to the season, one of the marquee match-ups of the season.  Green Bay, decimated by injuries, has played unevenly all season, and can use this stage to break out and re-establish themselves in the NFC.

Sunday @ 1:15 PM - Minnesota @ New England - Will Brett Favre's streak of 291 consecutive starts (and at the QB position, I find this streak much more impressive than Cal Ripken's) come to end.  Not to mention a disgruntled Randy Moss' return to New England.

Sunday @ 1:15 PM - Seattle @ Oakland - Seattle's defense gets better each week and regardless of what everyone says about them, they are fun to watch.  Will they see the same offense from Oakland that walloped Denver last weekend?

I love it, it may be by new favorite commercial.  After being raked over the coals for joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, this is the best response Lebron could have given.  Lebron didn't make this decision for you or me.  He made it for himself.  And with the pressure and expectations he's had to burden in life, I respect that.  I think that takes more courage.  I couldn't agree more, Lebron, "Just do it."

And Speaking of Individuals Making Bad Decisions

        Jeremy Stevens was arrested AGAIN!  This time charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Upon his latest arrest he was immediately released from the Tampa Bay Bucs.  What a bum.  The former Husky (which I'm embarrassed to say) has done nothing in his life but disgrace the purple and gold.  Aside from his transgressions at UW his professional resume currently reads convictions of reckless driving and DUI, dropping crucial passes in the Super Bowl, and these latest charges.  With that his future job prospects are slim to none unless he's up against Lindsey Lohan.

Is the NCAA Finally Getting it Right

        Over the years we've heard countless stories of players receiving improper benefits from agents, boosters, even random scientists from Idaho.  Money flys in from every direction, there's no shortage.  But, all the NCAA does to reap "justice" is punish the program and the players the perp left behind, crippling them for years to come.  Whether that be my Huskies in the early 90's or USC just this past year, this practice has proven useless.  Now, I do agree the program is responsible for the oversight of its individual players to a degree.  But, it's the individual player who ultimately makes the decisions.  And why would he think twice about accepting gifts, when he knows he can walk away free, be drafted, and go swimming in his money bin.
        Finally though, the NCAA is working on a brilliant solution.  The NCAA is working with the NFL, NFLPA, & the American Football Coaches Association to look at penalties, for players who lost their college eligibility due to NCAA sanctions, imposed during their rookie seasons.  The possible penalties include hefty fines and lengthy suspensions.  This makes complete sense.  What player is going to bend over dollars to pick up pennies.  If the NCAA pursues this route, let's hope they execute quickly.  We all know progressive changes in the NCAA move at a similar pace to human evolution.

#2 Oregon 60   UCLA 13 - Again I ask what must Oregon do to earn the BCS's highest respects.  This performance was simply dominant.  Oregon's offense enforced its will on what looked like a meager high school team.  As much as everyone raves about Oregon's offense, don't overlook their defense.  They play aggressive, flying to the football, with sound fundamentals.  And they're led by Casey Matthews, brother of the NFL's best pass rusher Clay Matthews, backed up with a top tier secondary.  This is a special team.

#11 Missouri 36   #1 Oklahoma - The most undeserving #1 ever proved it.  Thank you.

#4 Aubrun 24   #6 LSU 17 - As predicted Auburn's victory catapulted them past Boise State and surprisingly all the way to the top spot.  Cam Newton further solidified himself as the Heisman favorite.

NFL

Steelers 23 Dolpins 22 - You can bet the NFL will review this game this upcoming offseason and update its instant replay rules.

Browns 30 Saints 17 - Football makes no sense this year.  I love it.

Raiders 59 Broncos - 14 - See above.

Panthers 23 49ers 20 - The Niners embarrass themselves against the previously winless Panthers.  How short is Mike Singletary's noose?

Seahawks 22 Cardinals 10 - Hawks claim the NFC top spot with 5 forced turnovers, which overcame the offense's red zone ineffectiveness.  The defense is getting better and is really fun to watch.

Someone Please Explain to Me How the BCS Computers Work

        The latest BCS standing were released today and Auburn with a 24-17 victory over LSU jumps 3 spots to #1.  Now,  I'm not going to argue they aren't the best team in the country like I did with Oklahoma last week (speaking of which thank God the most undeserving #1 I've ever seen lost on Saturday).  My only thoughts are "What the hell does Oregon need to do to earn the top spot?"  All they did this past week was throttle UCLA 60-13 (in did so in one of the most dominant performances I've seen).  They're #1 in both the Harris & Coaches Polls (each of which are one third of the BCS formula) yet they're 8 in the computers!  Someone please explain.  Boise State, #3 in the BCS, is #2 in both contributing polls, yet 6 in the computers.  Is geography a variable in the computer formula, because I'm confused.  Can we get a little Left Coast love?  Damn the East Coast Bias!

No Wonder Lebron Joined the Heat

        After "The Decision" Lebron James recieved more criticism than a Michael Bay film.  Chalked up as a sell-out, yet now I finally see the light.  Lebron wants to win a title, and he wants to win a title while the NBA still holds relevance. 
        Everyone over the past year has been worrying about the NFL not reaching a new CBA and having a lockout next season.  It sounds like a dire situation, but with as much money as the NFL is reeling in, there's no way they won't find a way to make something work.  The NBA, however, is in actually in a dire situation, after a season which riddled them with $350 million in losses, NBA commissioner (and douchebag) David Stern announced that he hopes to cut players' salaries by one third in the new CBA that must be reached after the upcoming season.  That's $750-$800 million of the roughly $2.1 billion it currently spends.  The Players Association's response, "The position expressed by the NBA today is regretful."  With that kind pay cut, there's no way players could be expected to afford child support, iced out watches, and Jesus bling.  With the NBA just making back ground after the last lock-out, I have a hard time imagining the repercussions of a sequel.
        Now, it will be interested to see how the negotiations pan out.  And I do agree the owners should be allowed certain justices (i.e. that ass Stephon Marbury should not get his millions when he refuses to play after getting butt-hurt over team issues).  Regardless, even if you're not an NBA fan, we should all hope they reach an agreement.  Because none of us want to see our tax dollars fund another federal bailout to GM due to a drop in Escalade sales.

Giants vs. Rangers in the World Series "Thank God!"

        The Giants finished off the Phillies in Game 6 of the NLCS last night.  Which matches them up with the Rangers who sent the Yankees packing the day before.  Now, this may not have been the match-up the MLB wanted, but I have only one thought, "Thank God!"  Watching either the Yankees or Phillies in the World Series again would have felt like the MLB going into syndication, and unfortunately for the them that wouldn't play back as well as Seinfeld.

Mike Williams For NFL Comeback Player of the Year

        Mike Williams, former All-American & Top-10 pick, was out of the NFL for 2 years, cut from 3 different teams after ballooning up to 280+ lbs!  This past Sunday he caught a career high 10 passes for 123 yards against Chicago as Seattle's no.1 reciever.  And did so at a svelte 228 lbs.  How? 
        A life filled with adversity (see http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nfl/news/story?id=5696566 for the Mike Williams story, he is what Michael Oher was before the Blind Side). 
        Mike once again found a way back, cut the weight, and at 6'5" began to resemble the imposing WR he once was from USC.  Enough even for his former coach, Pete Caroll, to offer him his 4TH CHANCE IN THE NFL.  And this time its paying off.  His re-emergence gave the Hawks enough confidence to cut/trade T.J. Houshmandzadeh & Deion Branch.  He is the big-play threat they've desperately needed.  He is the NFL's version of Mickey Rourke and the Seahawks are his "Wrestler."  I'd put my money down that he too brings home the statue.

Washington & Oregon Schools Left Out in the Cold on the Pac-12 Alignment

        Today, Pac-12 commissioner, Larry Scott officially unveiled the alignment of the new Pac-12.  As it is set the North Divison will be UW, WSU, UO, OSU, Cal, & Stanford leaving USC, UCLA, UA, ASU, Colorado, & Utah in the South Division.  The winner of each division will meet in a conference championship game to be held at the home field of the highest ranked team.  Each team will play all 5 divisionional rivals and 4 cross-over games.  However, all the California schools will continue to play each other every year.  Which means UW, WSU, UO, & OSU are the abused illegitimate step children.  They'll each only travel to the big-market exposed, recruit-fertile grounds of the LA region only once every other year.
         Although, it's hard to imagine that an alignment of any other would make much sense.  And regardless someone was going to be left out.  In the long run, I think the positives of an expanded conference and a championship game will outweigh the negatives.  And in a couple years from now when the topic of super-conferences re-emerges, you can bet the Pac-12 will be in prime position.

Washington @ No. 18 Arizona Saturday @ 7:15 PM - Can the Dawgs capitalize on last week's double OT victory and take advantage of an Arizona team without starting QB Nick Foles.  A victory here will really build up steam behind the train hoping to make a bowl for the first time since 2003.

Arizona @ Seattle Sunday @ 1:05 PM - Regardless of how putrid the NFC West has been, they've posted a few shockers (Seattle over Chicago & Arizona over NO).  This game will determine 1st place and leave the winner in the driver's seat for the division crown.

NY Giants @ Dallas Sunday @ 5:30 PM - Can a reeling Dallas squad so close to rendering themselves irrelevant halt the skid against the now-hot Giants.

Philadelphia @ San Francisco Thursday @ 5 PM - The Freak out dueled Halladay in game 1 on his turf.  Halladay looks to reap revenge in a similar fashion and keep the Phillies postseason alive.

BCS Rankings

        As most of you saw this past Sunday the initial BCS rankings debuted with Oklahoma at #1 and Oregon at #2.  And I'm left to ask, "Why?"  Oregon is #1 in every other poll I can find with Oklahoma at #3.  I thought strength of schedule and quality of victory were key contributors to these rankings.  Let's take a quick look.  Oregon plays in the Pac-10 which is ranked higher than the Big-12 where Oklahoma resides.  Oklahoma struggled with Utah State winning by a TD in the late minutes, beat Air Force by 3, and Cincinnati by 2.  In the Red River Shootout they beat a meager Texas team by 8.  There one standout win was against #17 Florida State by 30.  Oregon on the other hand has won their games with an average margin of victory of 38.  Including a victory at Rocky Top by a whopping 35.  And their best win was a 21 point victory against #12 Stanford.  Their closest game was an 11 point victory against a tough ASU team on the road.  Based on this, I don't see how it's possible Oklahoma is sitting on top.  Damn that East Coast Bias.
        Unfortunately, the odd man out (again) is Boise State at #3.  #2 in every other poll, yet the BCS seems to be killing them in the strength of schedule department (which I have to agree with).  Provided Oklahoma and Oregon don't blow it this weekend, I guarantee they'll drop to #4 after this weekend behind the winner of #4 Auburn vs. #6 LSU.  BSU seems to be the band geeks left knocking on the door to the popular kid's party.  Will they ever get in?

New Rules Contradict Future NFL Plans

        So today the NFL discussed that it would begin imposing suspensions on players inflicting vicious hits on defenseless players.  In particular focusing on helmet-to-helmet collisions.  In fact today the NFL levied some hefty fines to players involved in this past weekend's debated monster collisions.  Now, I understand the NFL's concerns and motives.  With so many star players getting hurt and the many that will continue to to get hurt, the NFL is attempting to curb the injury rate.  Obviously, the more players out with injury, the lower the quality of play.  Hence, the inferior the product they are selling.  You can see their logic.
        Now, at the beginning of season, NFL commish, Roger Goodell said it was all but a done deal that the NFL would move to an 18 game season.  Now, as a season ticket holder, I hate being forced to pay full price for 2 preseason games.  With the an 18 game season, the preseason would be cut from 4 games to 2.  Sounds like a good deal.  But, let's think about this.  One thing is for sure, as time evolves, players are getting bigger, stronger, & faster.  And consequently the hits will become more violent and punishing.  So connecting the dots, with more meaningful games, the more opportunities for players to lay the wood.  Ultimately resulting in more injuries.  And if by game 17 & 18, our team's starting lineup is decimated aren't we forced to watch our team play at a preseason level, but in possible meaningful games, potentially derailing your teams postseason ambitions.  And therefore lowering my interest in the product I'm buying.
        As a fan and season ticket holder, I'm all for an 18 game season, provided the decision for change is made with the hope to increase quality of play & competition, and not one based on greed.

Cliff Lee's Legend Grows

        13 strikeouts, 1 walk, 0 runs, in 8 innings of work for Cliff Lee helping the Rangers beat the Yankees 8-0 and take a 2-1 series lead in the ALCS.  In doing so, he improved to 7-0 with a 1.26 ERA in 8 career postseason starts.  Of that he is 3-0 against the Yankees.  And what's funny is that with each successive domination of the Yankees, the larger his contract offer from the Yankees will be this upcoming offseason.  Therefore, in order to not break the bank entirely, the Yanks will need to win 3 straight, than dare face Lee again in a decisive Game 7.

Soldier Field.....

        Opened in 1924, Soldier Field is nearly as old as the NFL itself.  This past weekend I got the pleasure of visiting this hallowed ground to watch my Seahawks in action.  You can imagine, I expected the crowd to be as intimidating as its history is long.  I mean this is supposed to be one of the toughest places to play in the NFL.  In truth, it was the exact opposite.
        I was there decked out in Seahawks gear along with my brother and his friend.  And we voiced our loyalty to the Hawks louder than our clothes did.  Yet, not a single Bears fan said a word.  I figured we'd of had numerous people in our faces.  During the game, when the Bears defense was on the field, the jumbo-trons were lit up with "Get Loud" & "4-Phase Noise" (what that means I don't know, I even asked those around us and they had no clue), yet the crowd could care less as they sat there silent.  In fact the loudest they got was when they booed Jay Cutler.  After each Seahawks TD, you can imagine how crazy we were.  However, that was too much for the sourpuss Bears fans to handle.  Too much so, that people in our section texted the anonymous complaint line getting my brother and his friend booted after Lynch's TD and our successive celebration.  Yet then I had 12 different people come up to me and apologize for them getting ejected, reasoning they'd never seen something so bogus.  Then after the game, the guy who sold beer in my section tried to start a fight with us outside for "talking trash."  As we were dealing with that another Bears fan threw a sucker punch at my brother.  Fortunately he was drunk and missed, and after separating the two, he stated he threw the punch because he was from Chicago and we were from Seattle.  What a bunch of idiots Bears fans are.  I must say while the newly remodeled Soldiers Field is a great place to watch a game at, the experience itself, if you are a visiting fan, is not that spectacular.
        Now, I want to get back to the crowd noise, which again in Chicago was absolutely pathetic.  I have been to every NFL stadium on the West Coast and some others around the country.  Plus I've been to several college stadiums as well.  And I must say, for the NFL, there is no place louder and tougher to play than Qwest (Seattle).  And in college, Husky & Autzen (Oregon) Stadiums are easily the loudest.  So apparently  when it comes to football, the northwest throws down harder than anyone.  If anyone can challenge that statement, please step forward.

BCS Jokes

        After my first post on Ohio State I was prodded to research the schedules of the entire Top 25.  Let me tell you, I was shocked to what I found.  In the SEC, currently their are 6 Top 25 teams.  Of these 6, 4 teams, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, & Florida all only have 4 road games.  If you want a shot at the national title (which Auburn and LSU do) than you're expected to win all your home games.  If that holds true, each of them has been slated 8 wins right off the bat.  Titles need to be earned not given away.
         Yet, that was not the worst, though now no longer a Top 25 team, Texas (always a player in the national title race at the start of each season), plays a mere 3 road games.  I realize you've followed the 2 most successful QB's in school history with the impish Garrett Gilbert, but just because he hasn't hit puberty yet is no excuse for the caliber of program you run.  Fortunately, Texas is just flat out not good, they're looking at losing their 3rd consecutive game for the first time in Mack Brown's tenure.  Also of note, 12 years under Mack Brown, Texas has never won fewer than 9 games.  That streak is definitely in jeopardy.

        No. 1 Ohio State @ No. 18 Wisconsin - 4:00 PM - Big Ten ball is boring.  But check in for updates and hope for a Wisconsin upset severely hurting OSU's title shot.  A favor we'd all be thankful for.

        Seattle @ Chicago - 10:00 AM - I'll be at this one repping the Hawks.  We'll see what soldier field will throw at us.  Plus Marshawn Lynch's first game and the first full game of LT Russell Okung.  And he'll be thrown directly into the fire matching up against all-world DE Julius Peppers.

        Cleveland @ Pittsburgh - 10:00 AM - Aside from the return of fratboy Ben, with injuries to Jake Delhomme & Seneca Wallace, Colt McCoy is slated to start his first NFL game vs. the vaunted Steelers defense (who's nickname should be "The Dreaded Locks" thoughts?).  This one has massacre written all over it.  Think Custard vs. the Indians.

        Oakland @ San Francisco - 1:00 PM - Battle of the Bay.  I'm just interested to see if NFC West Rival SF drops to 0-6.  Assuming they do, cast your vote on who will beat the Niners: the Raiders, Alex Smith, or Mike Singletary.

What's Up with Darelle Revis?

       Last season, I would argue Darrelle Revis was the best player in the enitre NFL.  When the league's top WR's paid a visit to "Revis Island," their significance was simply wiped out.  They were rendered helpless.
       Yet this season its not such.  After publicly calling Randy Moss a slouch, Moss burned Revis on a 34 yard TD, with Revis pulling up limp, reminiscent of Michael Johnson racing Donovan Bailey.  He left the game and handed Moss's coverage duties over to teammate Antonio Cromartie.  And after last week's Randy Moss trade, he had the opportunity for revenge this past Monday night, yet passed along the coverage responsibility again to Cromartie.  He was left to cover Percy Harvin (also no slouch), who then burned him on a crossing route on 3rd and 17 for a TD.  Then at the end of the game he fell on another crossing route by Harvin that would have resulted in a mile long game winning TD.  I obviously say "would have" because Brett Favre missed the throw and moments later threw a game sealing pick 6 (understandable as his mind is probably occupied with an internal debate on which nut is more photogenic).
       I only bring Revis up, because watching him in top form is truly one of the most enjoyable experiences a true football fan can watch.  Let's hope he gets back there, otherwise trips to "Revis Island" will be the next special we see on Expedia.com.

Tim Lincecum is a Freak

        He's the first player ever to win the Cy Young Award in his first two full seasons.  He weighs just 172 pounds, yet can generate high enough velocities to lead the NL in strikeouts the past three seasons.  His nickname is "The Freak," and that's exactly what our fellow left-coaster (and former Washington Husky) is.
        Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to face this guy.  Just imagine, you're a big leaguer, you step up to the plate, fresh off the injection table, ready to knock one into the upper deck.  You look to the mound and see what looks to be Joseph Gordon Levitt fresh off the "3rd Rock From Sun" set.  You can't help but smile.  That is until a few pitches later you sulk back to the dugout as the latest victim of "The Freak."  Simply demoralizing.
        He'll have his work cut out for him this weekend though, as he leads the Giants against Roy Halladay and the Phillies in the NLCS opener.  Halladay is simply the best pitcher of the decade, it's just unfortunate up until this past season he wasted years away with the hapless Blue Jays.  Do yourself a favor this Saturday, forget about watching the Big Ten Borefest (Ohio State vs. Wisconsin, slated to air at the same time) and don't miss a pitching duel for the ages.

Cliff Lee Is the Most Dominant Postseason Pitcher Ever

        With 7 career postseason starts Cliff Lee is 6-0 with 3 complete games.  In 56 1/3 innings he's struck out 54 and walked only six.  In the history of the postseason, only 8 times has a pitcher struck out 10+ with 0 walks.  And of those 8, Cliff Lee has done it 4 times!
        I remember watching him dominate the postseason last year and thinking, "Man, would I love to have him on my team."  And then this past offseason, the Mariners pull off a blockbuster trade pairing Lee with our own ace, Felix Hernandez.  Seattle was going wild.  How could this be?  The only justification I can comprehend was that it was a special request from the Make a Wish Foundation.  I mean if Cliff Lee was Minka Kelly, the Mariners are some lucky schmuck that somehow rounded the bases with her when she was drunk and horny in between her time with John Mayer and Derek Jeter.  Unfortunately, we all know that the dream died quickly as the Mariners quickly squandered away the season with the most pathetic offense since the invention of the DH.  And Lee was subsequently traded to the ALCS bound Rangers.  It's just a shame Lee had to pitch last night in Game 5, otherwise he'd be matched up with C.C. Sabathia in Game 1 against the Yankees.  What a treat that would have been.

Did Brett Favre Send Lewd Photos to a Hot Sideline Reporter?

       One can only hope so.  Hollywood couldn't write material that good.  Now, currently these are just alleged allegations, so I won't spend too much time on this subject (yet).  I just have one question for Brett (if this is true).  After sending a girl a picture(s) of your goods, what kind of response are you expecting?  I'm interested in people's thoughts.
        Again, if this is true, I imagine he'll be dwelling in the doghouse for quite sometime with the missus.  He may have to get her something really extravagant to overcome these transgressions.  If that's the case let's hope he follows the simple steps of Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg:
                        1. Cut a hole in the box.
                        2. Put your junk in that box.
                        3. Make her open that box.
            And that's the way you do it........

Boise State Projected as BCS No. 1

        That's right, according to ESPN's Brad Edwards, six weeks into the college season, one week prior to the official BCS standings being released, he projects that Boise State is sitting atop the college football world.  Now, I couldn't agree more with the multitudes of folks that believe BSU doesn't deserve a slot in the National Title game due to its cupcake schedule.  But, I have to admit, after seeing this I can't help cracking a smile.  Why?  Because if these projections hold true, I couldn't think of a bigger slap in the face to the BCS.  And I LOATHE the BCS.  I debate daily which I hate more, the BCS, Ticketmaster, or Comcast (so far Comcast holds a comfortable lead).
        Plus, can you imagine how much this must piss off the Big Ten, one of the BCS's staunchest supporters.  If an undefeated BSU team ruins an undefeated OSU's title chances, I could only hope the Big Ten would turn its back on the BCS.  And with that hopefully the dominoes would begin to fall.

Alex Smith Has Got to Go

Alex Smith leads the league with 9 interceptions.

Mike Singletary says, "When I look at Alex, I'm convinced that there's something there that I feel that he can be a good quarterback."

Alex Smith has thrown only 6 TD's to complement the interceptions.

Mike Singletary says, "I do believe that Alex Smith has all of the tools, all of the things that he needs to be that guy. I just need to see all of it."

Alex Smith was drafted 6 years ago.

Mike Singletary says, "I want to exhaust everything with Alex Smith."

The Niners have started the year 0-5.

Team president Jed York texted ESPN, "We will win the division."

        Even the Oakland Raiders cut ties with their former no. 1 overall selection after 3 years.  What is it going to take for the Niners to get a clue.  The offensive line is full of 1st and 2nd round draft picks, Frank Gore is a beast, and they bolster a hard nosed defense led by the best linebacker in the game.  The talent seems endless everywhere you look on this team.  That is everywhere but its most critical spot.  I feel like I'm watching a movie with Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and yet the leading role is handed to Hayden Christianson.

        Now, I do believe the Niners did a major disservice to Smith in his maturation process.  In fact I believe they couldn't have done worse.  But after 6 years enough is enough.  After not acquiring Donovan McNabb this past season and simply dominating a weak NFC West, you did your team a disservice.  Accept your mistake, swallow your investment, pray for the chance to draft Andrew Luck, and move on.

Deion Branch, GOOD RIDDANCE!

Let's do a quick review of Seattle's relationship with Deion Branch.

9/11/2006 - Seahawks trade a 1st round pick for Deion Branch.  Now, in a quick aside, in a league which values draft picks above all else, and one in where the Patriots can trade a 4th round pick for Randy Moss and then trade him to the Vikings for a 3rd round pick, how did the Patriots fleece us in such a manner?

2006 - 14 games, 53 receptions, 4 TD's
2007 - 11 games, 49 receptions, 4 TD's
2008 - 8 games, 30 receptions, 4 TD's
2009 - 14 games, 45 receptions, 2 TD's

And after 4 games in 2010 Seattle trades him back to Patriots for a 4th round pick.

With his mediocre tenure here, I think all Seahawks' fans can agree two of his most memorable moments are:
1. His TD against Dallas, and subsequently screaming into the camera "You know where to find me!"  (Yet we were told this remark had no trade insinuations)
2. His guest appearance on the Nate Burleson Show along with fellow knucklehead T.J. Houshmandzadeh (all three of which are now gone) and proclaiming, "If you ain't with us, then you're against us!".  And whining that no one gives him credit for showing up everyday ready to work (yes, none of us know what this is like).

Deion, Seattle wants you as much as I want syphilis.  GOOD RIDDANCE!

The Fallacy That is the Ohio State Buckeye National Title Hopes

        I have one simple point to make here in supporting my title statement.  This season the Ohio State Buckeyes play 4 ROAD GAMES!  In a 12 game season, am I the only one that thinks this is a JOKE?  Yet, we hear no one talking about this.  If I was apart of either Oregon, Boise State, or Nebraska, I'd make a point to bring it up every week.  OSU currently holds the no. 1 spot in the AP & Coaches Polls (and in overwhelming fashion).  And if they run the table its very likely they'll keep that position.  Who wants to see OSU romped in another title game?  I know I don't.  They're first real test is this coming weekend at #18 Wisconsin.  I'll be rooting for the Badgers (I won't watch though, because I can't stand to watch the Big 10's outdated style of play).
        If beauty pageant contestants can't stuff their bras, then OSU shouldn't be allowed to pad their schedule in a similar fashion.
